Halloween Weekend 2026

Your Fort Lauderdale Halloween Weekend Survival Guide

Halloween weekend is one of the most fun — and most reliably chaotic — weekends of the year. Somehow, every year, someone forgets a ride home, shows up without a costume, or tries to rally eight people at 10 PM with zero plan. This guide exists so that someone is not you. Get the basics right and the night handles itself. And if you are in Fort Lauderdale this weekend, Empire has a few very good reasons to make your way to Las Olas.

Start With the Costume. Seriously, Start Now.

Nothing kills a Halloween weekend faster than waking up Saturday morning with zero costume and a spirit of wishful thinking. Whether you are going solo or coordinating a group theme, give yourself time. The best costumes have one of two things going for them: they are immediately recognizable, or they come with a great story when someone inevitably asks "wait, who are you supposed to be?"

A few things worth thinking through before you commit:

01

Dress for the Venue

South Florida in late October is not the same as Halloween in, say, Chicago. It is still warm. Possibly humid. A full-body werewolf suit looks incredible in the photos and absolutely brutal by 10 PM. Pick something you can actually move in and one that breathes — your future self will appreciate it.

02

Lock In the Group Theme Early

Group costumes fall apart because there is always one person who "has something in mind" and says nothing until Friday night. Pick the theme now. Send it in writing. Get commitment. One person drops the ball and suddenly your Ghostbusters crew is missing the Slimer, and that is a very hard thing to explain at the door.

03

The Contest Angle

If you are going somewhere with a costume contest — like Saturday Fright Fever — think strategically. Judges tend to reward creativity and originality over production value. Something with a clever concept wins more often than the most expensive outfit in the room.

04

Shoes Matter More Than You Think

You will be on your feet all night. If the costume calls for heels or an elaborate base, make sure you have thought through the footwear situation. Comfortable shoes save nights. Bad shoes end them.

The costumes people remember are the ones with a story behind them. Recognize the character or not — if you can tell me something about it, you win the room.

Get Your Group Together Before the Weekend Hits

Halloween weekend is one of the rare times when everyone actually wants to go out on the same night. The downside: everyone else also wants to go out on the same night. If you are trying to coordinate a group — dinner, the party, the tailgate — do not wait until Thursday. That group chat will go nowhere fast and you will end up somewhere you did not plan on being.

Make the decisions now: where you are starting, where you are going, who is driving, and whether you need a reservation. Venues fill up. Tables sell out. A group of eight trying to walk into anywhere on October 31st with vibes and no plan is going to have a very humbling experience at the door.

If your crew is coming to Saturday Fright Fever, reserve a table in advance. Tables go faster than people expect, and "we'll just figure it out when we get there" is not a strategy on Halloween night.

Plan the Transportation Now, Not at 11 PM

This is the tip people always skip and always regret. Every rideshare app in South Florida surges on Halloween Saturday. If you are heading into Las Olas or anywhere with a concentrated crowd, assume prices double after 9 PM — and triple around last call. Nobody wins that argument with the app. You just pay it or wait 45 minutes in costume on a street corner.

A few ways to actually get ahead of it:

Line up a designated driver or set up a rotation before anyone has had anything to drink. If you are staying close to where the action is, even better — it completely changes what the night can be when you are not watching the clock for a pickup. Pre-schedule your rideshare if the app lets you. And for what it is worth, Las Olas is walkable from a good chunk of downtown Fort Lauderdale depending on where you park — plan that out ahead of time too.

The Empire Anchor: Your Halloween Weekend, Night by Night

Here is the thing about Halloween weekend at Empire this year — there are three distinct reasons to be here across three nights, and they all build on each other. This is not one event. It is a weekend.

Friday · October 30

Greek's Gridiron Beat — Live on Air

10 AM – 3 PM · Open to the Public

Empire kicks off the weekend Friday morning with a live remote broadcast. Greek, the legendary South Florida sports personality from Fox Sports 940AM and 92.1 Real Radio, is broadcasting live from the lounge in a full iHeart Media production. Come hang, play Beat the Greek, and get your Halloween weekend started with some serious sports energy before the night takes over.

Also running through Halloween weekend: Empire has an activation at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, one of the largest in-water boat shows in the world. If you are out at the show between October 28 and November 1, come find us — and make the lounge your next stop after you walk the docks.

Saturday · October 31

Saturday Fright Fever

8 PM · Open to the Public

This is the main event. Saturday Fright Fever is a full Halloween disco party — music by BREZNIK, costume prizes that are worth showing up for, and Dano's promo team in the building. The vibe is elevated but the energy is unmistakably Halloween. Come in costume. Compete. Dance. This is the night Las Olas will be talking about.

Tables fill fast. Reserve yours before they are gone.

Sunday · November 1

Dolphins Tailgate — Halloween Hangover

4 PM · Open to the Public

Saturday Fright Fever gives you the fever. Sunday gives you the cure. The Halloween Hangover Dolphins tailgate is exactly what it sounds like — great sports energy, BREZNIK back on the music, Dano's and Tripping Animals promo teams keeping the good vibes rolling. Wear your Dolphins gear or show up in whatever you were wearing Saturday night. No judgment here.

A Few More Things Worth Knowing Before the Weekend

05

Eat Before You Go Out

This should not need to be in a survival guide, and yet every year it does. If the party starts at 8 PM and you have not eaten since noon, you are not going to make it to midnight. Eat a real meal. Not a snack. A meal. Your Saturday night self will genuinely thank your Tuesday morning self.

06

Know Where You're Going

Las Olas has a lot happening Halloween weekend. Know which venue you are going to, know the address, and have a backup plan if you hit a long line somewhere. Half the night is logistics — handle it ahead of time so you can focus on actually having fun.

07

Charge Your Phone

Fully charged before you leave. Portable charger if you have one. You will want to take pictures, you will need the rideshare app, and you will spend a solid portion of the night texting your group trying to find each other in a crowd. A dead phone on Halloween night is a rite of passage nobody actually wants. Charge the thing.

08

Pace the Weekend

If you are doing all three nights — Greek's on Friday, Fright Fever on Saturday, Hangover tailgate on Sunday — pace yourself accordingly. Hydrate. Sleep between events like a responsible adult. The Sunday tailgate is genuinely one of the better ways to close out a Halloween weekend, but only if you actually make it to Sunday.

The best Halloween weekends are the ones that were actually planned. Everything else is just hoping it works out.
